Day 1 Depart from CLE
Day 2 Arrive in Lisbon. Panoramic tour of Lisbon, with exterior views of Jerónimos Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage site, a jewel of the 16th century Manueline architecture; Belem Tower on banks of Tagus, 25th April Bridge, Basilica d’Estrela, Marquee of Plombal Square, and Church of St. Anthony of Padua, built on his birthplace. Dinner and overnight in Fatima.
Day 3 Experience the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima, the Chapel of Apparitions, Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary where visionaries Francisco and Jacinta are buried, See Aljustrel, the village of the shepherd visionary children. Possibly participate in the Rosary and candlelight procession. Dinner and overnight.
Day 4 Travel to Salamanca to walk the medieval district to the Plaza Mayor and view the Casa de las Conchas (a magnificent 300 shell façade) and other plateresque architecture including Eglesia San Marcos and Eglesia San Martin de Porres. See the ensemble of Romanesque and Gothic styles in the joined Old and New Cathedral of Salamanca by Tormes River. From the amazing lantern tower topped with the statue of a cock to the beautiful fresco of the Last Judgment, from the 16th century organ to the tombs of emperors, the two cathedrals are home to many architectural treasures. Dinner and overnight.
Day 5 Visit the Carmelite Monastery in Alba de Tormes where St. Teresa of Avila passed away. Peruse the museum with the reliquary containing part of St. Teresa, then the gothic Cathedral (built as a church and fortress) whose apse is part of the wall of Avila, followed by St. Vincent Basilica, a Romanesque masterpiece, and Monastery of the Incarnation, where St. Teresa took her vows and had her heart-piercing mystical experience. Visit St. John of the Cross’ monastery, San Juan de la Cruz before heading to Burgos for a breathtaking view of the exterior of the Gothic Cathedral of St. Mary, third largest cathedral in Spain, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Dinner and overnight.
Day 6 Onto the Sanctuary in Loyola dedicated to St. Ignatius, founder of the Jesuits, built around the family mansion where he was raised. Then to Saragosse to visit the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar, one of the largest religious buildings of Spain, the oldest Marian shrine in the world, where the Virgin appeared to St. James the Apostle in 40 AD to encourage his evangelizing of Europe. Dinner and overnight.
Day 7 Travel to Montserrat to visit the Monastery of St. Mary and see the famed Black Virgin, a wooden sculpture believed to have been carved in Jerusalem at the start of Christianity. She is set in stunningly beautiful and ornate surroundings. To see her up close, pass by four chapels dedicated to Sts. Peter, Ignatius of Loyola, Martin and Joseph Calasantius. Dinner and overnight in Barcelona.
Day 8 Begin at Parc Guell, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, designed by Catalan architect, Antoni Gaudi, followed by his also very famous Sagrada Familia Basilica, an extremely modern church, with imposing towers and unique blend of religious symbolism and artistic innovation. Travel to Lourdes for dinner and overnight.
Day 9 Spend the day in Lourdes at the famous Sanctuary of Our Lady, where she appeared to St. Bernadette, a simple, uneducated shepherd, as the Immaculate Conception, where many miracles of healing occur. Visit the places Bernadette lived. Take time to pray in the Grotto of the Apparitions, Way of the Cross, the Baths. Dinner and overnight.
Day 10 Enjoy a Wine tasting at a vineyard near Bordeaux! Then to Chartres for dinner and overnight.
Day 11 Visit the magnificent Cathedral of Chartres and then Paris for a panoramic tour to view Notre Dame Cathedral, Eiffel Tower, L’Arch de Triomphe and one of the world’s most famous boulevards, Champ-Elysees, before seeing the statue of Mary Magdalene being carried to heaven by angels at La Madeleine. Attend Mass at Sacre Coeur Basilica, atop Montmartre Hill, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, with a beautiful mosaic of the Risen Christ, and Grand Organ. Time permitting, ascend a staircase to the Dome for a breathtaking view of Paris. Dinner and overnight.
Day 12 Celebrate Mass at Our Lady of Miraculous Medal and see the incorrupt body of St. Catherine Laboure, the saint chosen by Our Lady to make and promote the use of the Medal and scapular. Walk to St. Vincent de Paul Church and visit the historic heart of Paris, Notre Dame Cathedral and the hidden treasure of Sainte-Chapelle, the lower part with its open design and upper flooded with light from huge stained glass windows. Dinner and overnight.
Day 13 Return home.
