 Proposed Itinerary 
"Celebrate the Saints of Spain & Our Lady of Lourdes" 
Sept 9-20, 2026
An exciting 12-day pilgrimage to Spain & France

​​Day 1 & 2  : Depart from Cleveland, Ohio, and arrive in Compostela, Spain.

​

Day 3 : Visit Compostela to the Cathedral of St. James and his tomb, and sites associated with El Camino.

​

Day 4  : Travel to the region of Avila.

​

Day 5  : Visit the gothic Cathedral (built as a church and fortress) whose apse is part of the wall of Avila, followed by St. Vincent Basilica, a Romanesque masterpiece, to Alba de Tormes to peruse the museum with the reliquary containing part of St. Teresa and the beautiful Monastery of the Incarnation, where St. Teresa took her vows and had her heart-piercing mystical experience and where the Confessional of St. John of the Cross is located.

Day 6  : Onto the Sanctuary in Loyola dedicated to St. Ignatius, founder of the Jesuits, built around the family mansion where he was raised, before traveling to Zaragoza.

​

Day 7  :  Visit the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar, one of the largest religious buildings of Spain, the oldest Marian shrine in the world, where the Virgin appeared to St. James the Apostle in 40 AD to encourage his evangelizing of Europe. Afterwards, journey to Montserrat.

​

Day 8 :  Spend the morning in the Monastery of St. Mary and see the famed Black Virgin, a wooden sculpture believed to have been carved in Jerusalem at the start of Christianity by St. Luke. She is set in stunningly beautiful and ornate surroundings. To see her up close, pass by four chapels dedicated to Sts. Peter, Ignatius of Loyola, Martin and Joseph Calasantius. Venture to Manresa, to the cave of St. Ignatius where he lived for 11 months and formed his Spiritual Exercises.

Day 9 : Set out to Lourdes, arriving mid-day.

​

Day 10 & 11 : Spend two full days in Lourdes at the famous Sanctuary of Our Lady, where she appeared to St. Bernadette, a simple, uneducated shepherd, as the Immaculate Conception, where many miracles of healing occur. Visit the places Bernadette lived.  Pray in the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, various chapels, Grotto of the Apparitions, Way of the Cross, join the Candlelight Vigil, get water from the spring, and a limited number of pilgrims to be fully immersed in the Baths. Take time for spiritual renewal, refreshment and relaxation.

Day 12 : Return home.

There will be some longer treks on the bus as we travel across the utterly beautiful country of Spain, where we will have more opportunities for activities, prayer, quiet reflection, teaching and education about the history, culture, and breathtaking beauty of the surroundings. There will be a restroom on the bus as well.

 

**This is for dual occupancy for airfare, hotels, breakfast and dinner while at hotel, bus and guide,

entrance fees to sites. Tips and travel insurance are not included.
