Follow the Missionary Journeys of St. Paul | Greece & Italy
Feb 10 - 21,  2019


 

Day 1 – Leave from CLE to Athens, Greece.

 

Day 2 – Arrive in Athens in the afternoon, go through immigration, then to the hotel for dinner and a brief, informal gathering before heading in for the night.

 

Day 3 – Begin at ancient Corinth, one of Paul’s most beloved cities that inspired many of his letters. Following his steps, we arrive at the Cathedral of St. Paul, wander the nearby market, walking the same paths he walked and preached. Stop at Corinth Canal and then Athens at Coast of Faliro where Paul first arrived in Athens by ship, visit the biggest churches in Athens of St. Paul, and next the Acropolis “Areopag” where Paul stood and preached to the Athenians. Then to the Propylae, the Erectheum and the Parthenon. We shall also ascend Mars Hill, view the Agora, ancient market place where Paul spoke to the Athenians. Overnight in Athens.

 

Day 4 – Visit  Meteora, visit the breathtaking rock tower monasteries of the 11th century including Great Meteoron Monastery, and 16th century Monastery of Varlaam on the top of a rock at 380 meters high and Monastery of Saint Stephen. Drive to Veria to see the church of Apostle Paul where he preached for many days and home of the “Vima of Apostle Paul” mural made of marble. Overnight in Thessaloniki. 

 

Day 5 – Drive to Kavala, the port of Philippi that Paul passed through with Silas on his way from Asia Minor to Philippi. Explore the ruins of the ancient sites with Forum, the Ancient Market, the Basilica and Theatre. In Philippi Paul preached his first evangelical sermon and baptized the first Christians in Europe, founding the church there. See where the first European woman, Lydia, was baptized and the crypt where Paul was imprisoned. Overnight in Thessaloniki.

 

Day 6 – Following breakfast, head to Athens. Fly to Venice, Italy and to Padova. Time permitting, visit Padova Old center with its beautiful basilicas and churches. Overnight in Padova.

 

Day 7 – Return to Venice San Marco Square by water taxi and begin a city tour at the Basilica of St Mark. See the golden altar and mosaics adorning this magnificent Byzantine basilica, built to honor the body of St. Mark brought from Alexandria in Egypt. Next, see the Piazza di San Marco and Palazzo Ducale (the palace of the Doge, political leader of former Republic of Venice). Enjoy a free afternoon to explore. Back to Padova overnight.

 

Day 8 –Go to Florence for a guided walking tour stopping at Duomo (Cathedral of St. Mary of the Flowers), Baptistry DoorsSignoria Square (the “open-air- museum”) and Santa Croce with the tombs of Michelangelo, Galileo, and Rossini. Time permitted people can go to Uffizzi Art Gallery, or Museo di San Marco (not include in price). Overnight in Florence.

 

Day 9 - Depart for Assisi, where the tangible spirit of St Francis is preserved in this holy town. Enjoy a guided walking tour through some of these highlights: Basilica of St Francis housing the tomb of St Francis, and the Basilica of St Clare home of famous San Damiano crucifix from which Jesus spoke to Francis to rebuild His Church. Drive to Rome for overnight.

 

Day 10 - Enjoy a Christian Rome Tour, St. Mary Major and St. John in Lateran, the Cathedral of Rome, the Holy Steps climbed by Christ in Jerusalem, and Basilica of the Holy Cross with some of Christianity's most important relics, as a piece of the True Cross, thorn and nails. Finally, St. Paul’s Outside the Walls. 

 

Day 11 – Visit the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel, with some of the most inspiring works of art, including Michelangelo's magnificent fresco of the Last Judgment. Tour St. Peter’s Basilica. Explore Ancient Rome with a tour of the Coliseum (EXTERIOR visit), Capitol Hill, Vittorio Emmanuel Monument, Roman Forum, Circus Maximus and Michelangelo’s statue of Moses at St. Peter in Chains Church.

 

Day 12 - Depart for our flight back home.

Join us for this unforgettable experience for only $4935/person if paid by check before Sept 30, 2018, and deposit is paid by June 30, 2018. That is an all-inclusive price (for dual occupancy) including airfare and tips, with exception of lunches. Prices may vary after June 30, 2018, depending on seat availability. First half of balance of $2218 is due July 31, 2018 (refundable until Aug 30, 2018). Final balance of $2217 is due Sept 30 (nonrefundable). For those in a single room, the supplement of $575 is due as well Sept 30, so final balance for those with supplement is $2792 (nonrefundable).
